Term of Parliament (Enabling 4-year Term) Legislation Amendment Bill

LGNZ supports the move to a four-year parliamentary term and advocates for including local government in this change. The benefits of a four-year term apply equally to local government, and polling indicates public support for its inclusion. Local government is in favour of this change, and aligning local and parliamentary elections is crucial to avoid negative impacts. We also want to see the proposed mechanism for achieving a parliamentary four-year term simplified to give voters greater certainty about the parliamentary term length prior to each election.
