Submission on the Ministry for the Environment’s 2021 discussion paper Transforming Aotearoa New Zealand’s resource management system

LGNZ is broadly supportive of the high-level direction that the Government proposes to take with these reforms, particularly in the areas of a national planning framework and strategic planning. Both are essential if we are to create a system that both protects and improves the natural environment, while also enabling resource use and development within limits. However, of critical concern to LGNZ is the potential for loss of local input into resource management decisions.
