Submission on the COVID-19 Recovery (Fast-track Consenting) Bill

LGNZ supports the purpose of this Bill but notes that in balancing the ‘need for speed’ with curtailment of opportunities for public participation, reduced information requirements and truncated decision-making process there is a heightened risk of unintended consequences. This applies ‘on the ground’ in setting conditions of consent that prove inadequate in managing generated effects to acceptable levels. Our submission focuses on minimising that risk.
