Submission on proposals to change forestry settings in the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme
13 April 2022
The Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) is proposing changes to better manage carbon farming that could see future permanent plantings of exotic forests like radiata pine excluded from the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).
LGNZ agrees that the NZ ETS is not incentivising good outcomes for communities, and supports the Government's proposal to exclude exotic forestry from the permanent forest category of the ETS, with exceptions.
