Submission on Aotearoa New Zealand’s First Emissions Reduction Plan

The Environment Select Committee Komiti Taiao is seeking feedback on Te Hau mārohi ki anamata Towards a productive, sustainable and inclusive economy Aotearoa New Zealand’s First Emissions Reduction Plan (ERP).  A considerable amount of the action needed to reduce emissions will have implications at the local level and will require changes to the way councils plan, develop and offer services.  While there’s some indication of where the ERP involves local government, there’s little detail around what this will mean practically.  Our submission sets out a number of suggestions for how central government can better partner with and support councils and their communities to address climate change.
