Biodiversity Offsetting under the Resource Management Act
12 September 2018
New Zealand’s indigenous biodiversity is unique. It’s integral to our sense of place and identity, as well as being central to our economy. Because so much of our biodiversity is found nowhere else on earth, we are considered a global biodiversity ‘hotspot’. As such, all of us have a responsibility to ensure our rich and diverse biodiversity is here for the future. Unfortunately, our unique biodiversity is facing a range of threats, from habitat loss to impacts from introduced pest and weed species, and we are losing ground in many cases. Halting this decline will not be easy and will require urgency and new thinking.
