I am delighted with the strong support offered by the sponsors who are supporting this year's Local Government New Zealand Conference. These sponsors are critical to the success of Conference, and we are very grateful to have them on board.

I am expecting interest to be very high for Conference this year, as 2010 will be a watershed year for councils, seeing both the creation of the Auckland super city and local authority elections throughout the country.
Together with the great location in the heart of Auckland and a very strong range of international speakers, Conference 2010 could be the perfect storm in terms of raising interest in local government issues.
Our theme of "Building Prosperous Places" is especially relevant as we recover from a global recession as a nation and consider the role local government has to play, or should play, in economic development in our towns and regions.
