Building Prosperous Places - Conference 2010
A line up of renowned international commentators will lead the debate on the critical role of councils in economic development at this year's Local Government New Zealand conference.
We're excited to announce that the Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Campbell Newman and London based Greg Clark, Executive Director of Strategy, Communications and Intelligence with the London Development Agency and the foundation chair of the OECD Forum of Cities and Regions, are confirmed keynote speakers.
Prior to being elected as Lord Mayor of the largest local council in Australia, Campbell had a 13-year career in the Australian Army, retiring in 1993 with the rank of major. Following this, he worked as a business consultant whose clients included Telstra, BHP Australia Coal and the Hydro Electric Commission in Tasmania. Before entering Council, he established a consulting firm, specialising in bulk commodity logistics and he's also a qualified civil engineer.
London based Greg Clark who specialises in city building, investment and strategies for globalisation, has 20 years experience in leadership roles in London agencies and advisory roles around the world. Greg is a leading academic and thinker in his field and is the author of four books and several major reports.
We are also bringing back the popular commentator and ad man, Peter Biggs, formerly head of Creative New Zealand, now leading the team at the multi -award winning Clemenger BBDO in Melbourne.
All three speakers will touch on the conference theme of ‘building prosperous places', which will examine the value of local government in strengthening the wealth of our regions.
This year we're excited to be hosting our conference at the Sky City Convention Centre from 25 to 28 July - a fantastic venue located in the Auckland CBD. The election race for the new Super City will shine the spotlight on Auckland and local body politics in 2010, so this year's conference looks set to be the most contentious, exciting and publicised to date.
Watch this space for the launch of our new user friendly conference website later in the year and information on how to register!
